If you perform a standard BIN upgrade, the boot path points to the file directly. If you use the TAR method, the boot path changes to a directory (e.g., flash:c3750e-universalk9-mz.152-4.E8/ ). This method is recommended for stack upgrades or when moving between major versions (e.g., 12.2 to 15.x). It automatically extracts the image, creates a directory, updates the boot path variable automatically, and updates the HTML web interface files. If you only have the .bin file, you must copy it manually to switch in the stack.
