Recent work in tactile urbanism (Hou, 2020) suggests that physical model-making activates different cognitive and emotional responses than digital screens. Handling a foam block that represents a new apartment complex allows residents to assess scale, shadow, and texture intuitively. Modellverksted Skedsmo operationalized this by maintaining a permanent 1:500 scale model of the entire municipality, with interchangeable building blocks.
