For the Romans, the world was alive with meaning. Every bird call, every rustle of leaves, could be a message. Picus reminds us to listen more closely to the wild things around us.
But Picus took this a step further. He was a mortal king who had mastered the art of augury. He carried a —the lituus —which was the symbol of the augur’s power to map out the heavens.
