This paper investigates the application of Libvpx , the open-source VP8/VP9 video codec library, to reduce encoding latency while preserving visual fidelity during high-motion jungle trials. We compare default H.264 encoders against Libvpx’s real-time mode, measuring frame drop rates, time-to-first-packet, and perceptual quality across 40 simulated fan-cam streams. Results indicate that Libvpx’s VP9 configuration achieves a 23% reduction in end-to-end latency without increasing buffering stalls, offering a viable low-cost alternative for unscripted live event streaming.
