Menzies plays Jack with a chilling duality. We see him dining with Claire (Caitriona Balfe), pouring wine, discussing poetry, and displaying a sharp, cynical wit. Menzies captures the audience by showing us the man Claire wants to see, making the eventual unveiling of his sadism all the more disturbing.
