5.1: Airplay

AirPlay introduces a substantial buffer—often between 500ms to 2 seconds—to absorb network jitter and contention. However, for video playback (AirPlay Mirroring or Apple TV output), this latency is unacceptable.

The transmission of 5.1 audio introduces a significant challenge: synchronization. In a stereo context, slight latency is perceptually negligible. In a 5.1 home theater context, latency results in "lip-sync" errors where dialogue does not match the actor's mouth movements. airplay 5.1

Most music streamed via AirPlay (e.g., from Apple Music) defaults to stereo (2.0 channels) . Even if the track is available in Spatial Audio, AirPlay may downmix it unless played directly on the Apple TV or HomePods. Even if the track is available in Spatial
