SCOP (Structural Classification of Proteins) was created to address this need. Developed initially by Alexey G. Murzin, Steven E. Brenner, Tim Hubbard, and Cyrus Chothia at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, SCOP offers a manual (and later semi-automated) classification of protein structural domains. The database provides a detailed description of the structural and evolutionary relationships of all proteins whose structure is known.
