Jack the Giant Slayer is a "popcorn movie" in the best sense. It is not aiming for the philosophical depth of The Lord of the Rings or the subversive humor of Shrek . It simply wants to be a rollicking adventure, and it succeeds. It is a visually impressive, well-acted, and undeniably fun film that makes for a perfect lazy Sunday watch.
As Jack climbs the beanstalk, he meets a giant named Grant (Bill Nighy), who is not as scary as he seems.
