Luffy adapts Gear 4 into specialized variations depending on his opponent: Gomu Gomu no Mi/Gear 4 Techniques - One Piece Wiki

By rapidly kicking his legs to "bounce" off the air, Luffy gains the ability to fly [9, 10].

| Opponent | Form Used | Result | Notes | |----------|-----------|--------|-------| | Donquixote Doflamingo | Boundman | Win | Doflamingo could not block King Kong Gun. | | Charlotte Cracker | Tankman (Full Version) | Win | Used Cracker’s own power + food to one-shot. | | Katakuri | Snakeman | Win | Speed/homing matched future sight. | | Kaido (first round) | Boundman | Loss | Kaido easily overpowered it. | | Kaido (final raid) | Snakeman / Hybrid | Draw/Transition | Led directly into Gear Fifth awakening. |

The critical innovation of Gear 4 is the heavy application of Armament Haki. Luffy coats his inflated limbs in a hardened, black metallic sheen. This serves two purposes:

inflating his muscular system while coating them in Armament Haki. This creates a high-tension, extremely elastic state where his body is "hard yet soft," allowing him to bounce off surfaces and even "fly" by kicking the air with explosive force. The Three Main Forms Gear 4 is unique because it features specialized sub-forms, each tailored for different combat scenarios: Boundman (Bounce-Man)

While Gear 5 (The Warrior of Liberation) has since surpassed Gear 4 in raw power and absurdity, Gear 4 remains a technically sound and highly lethal combat form suitable for overwhelming opponents with brute force or blinding speed.

A situational variant designed for defense and counter-attacks, utilized primarily against Charlotte Cracker.

Debut: One Piece Chapter 783 / Episode 726

Essential transformation – a perfect hybrid of creativity, Haki mastery, and rubber physics.
