We’ve all been there. You’re in the library or study hall, you have a looming deadline, and you know ChatGPT could help you brainstorm ideas or summarize a complex chapter. You pull out your school Chromebook, type in the URL, and boom:

Sometimes, school firewalls block the main ChatGPT website URL ( chat.openai.com ), but they don't block the Chrome Web Store (though many do).

: Some Chromebook restrictions are tied specifically to your school Google account. If your device allows it, sign out and enter as a Guest to see if the web filter is less restrictive.

: Turn on your smartphone's mobile hotspot and connect your Chromebook to it.

Note: Many schools disable the ability to install extensions. If the "Add to Chrome" button is greyed out, this method won't work.

Any attempt to bypass these blocks may violate your school’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), leading to consequences ranging from internet privileges revoked to disciplinary action.
