Modern operating systems support dynamic icon resizing via the scroll wheel or trackpad gestures. If a user holds the Ctrl key and scrolls down, or performs a "pinch" gesture on a trackpad, the OS reduces the icon size incrementally.
A good test: After resizing, stand three feet back from your screen. Can you still distinguish folders from documents? If yes, you’ve found your perfect size.
