The recipe is a proprietary blend of enriched flour, cane sugar, dried buttermilk, and a whisper of vanilla. And yes—the proprietary mix is excellent, but you can use other batters. Buttermilk, liege, even gluten-free blends will cook well on the iron. You just lose some of that signature malted flavor.
