Microsoft maintains a list of supported CPUs. For AMD, the cutoff is (with a few exceptions).
While Intel pioneered the "Performance" and "Efficiency" core hybrid architecture, AMD’s recent entries (like the Ryzen 9 7950X) have adopted similar strategies. Windows 11’s "Thread Director" is now fully fluent in AMD’s language, ensuring that heavy rendering tasks hit the Performance cores while background updates stay on Efficiency cores—a synchronization that was notably absent during the OS launch. amd windows 11 compatibility
Ryzen 2000 series and newer run Windows 11 reliably, with no major performance penalties. The early bugs are long gone, and AMD continues to release chipset drivers optimized for Windows 11. Microsoft maintains a list of supported CPUs
Fix: Update to the latest AMD chipset drivers (version 5.xx or newer) from AMD.com. Also update BIOS to the latest AGESA version. Windows 11’s "Thread Director" is now fully fluent
